John H. Bauer

  John H. Bauer, 88, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA. Born February 17, 1926 he was the son of the late Lawson Bauer, the New Jersey Zinc Company's chief chemist at Franklin, N.J. He was the husband of 58 years to Louise A. Bauer of Harrisburg.
During his studies at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II where he obtained the rank of Artillery Sergeant. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he returned to the states where he finished his college education with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College, Easton, PA.
In 1951 John joined the DuPont Company in Parlin, NJ. He served the company in various capacities, and later retired as plant manager of the DuPont Photo Products plant in Rochester, NY in 1986 after 35 years of service.
John's civic contributions included serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of PRIS2M; Chairman of the DuPont's United Way drives where he also served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for United Way, Rochester; Member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement and the Industrial Management Council of Rochester.
John loved and took great pride in his growing family. He had a passion for mineralogy, with a specific emphasis on Franklin minerals.
