Omer S. Dean passed away on December 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on March 17, 1924 to Cecil and Burta Stamper Dean in Armstrong, Kentucky, he grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. During World War 2, he served in the Army Air Corps, achieved the rank of Sergeant, and was honorably discharged. He attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a M.A. in Psychology.
While at UC, he met and married Betty L. Phillips. Upon graduation, he was hired as a timekeeper at Joseph E. Seagram and Sons and during his 34 years with the company rose through the ranks to become U.S. Operations Manager. During retirement, he traveled with his wife and pursued interests in history, chess, and photography of minerals. He served terms as President of the Sterling Hill Franklin Mineralogical Society and Editor of the Society's publication.
He is survived by Betty, his wife of 66 years; son David and daughter-in-law Mary Fleming Dean and granddaughters Betty Ruth and Mary Nell of San Antonio; son Eric and grandsons Christopher Lee and Jay Robert of Columbus, Ohio. We will all miss him and thank Vitas Hospice for their care.
