Gypsum under shortwave UV Light

Same view as in photo GYP11a, here shown under SW ultraviolet light. In this view, the red nodules are roeblingite, the dull pinkish orange is probably prehnite, and the blue is gypsum. The andradite, franklinite, and hendricksite are nonfluorescent. Excellent Raman spectra of the blue-fluorescing mineral in this specimen conclusively showed that most of the white material shown in photo GYP11a is gypsum (locally mixed with a little calcite) and not xonotlite. The data are on file in the Franklin Mineral Museum.
