Actinolite

Long-bladed crystals of dark green actinolite in a matrix of coarse-grained, pale gray calcite (fl. red) containing scattered, tiny grains of franklinite and, in one layer, pale olive green grains of diopside(?) along with the franklinite. The specimen is compositionally layered, as shown by changes in grain size of the calcite and by several thin layers containing franklinite. The face of the specimen containing the actinolite is parallel to these compositional layers. Gary Grenier obtained this specimen (labeled GG209) in April 1995 from collector/dealer Bob Boymistruk.
