Azurite

Azurite lightly impregnating and replacing the calcite matrix of low-grade franklinite-calcite ore from Sterling Hill.  Note the chalky luster of the calcite and the several places where films of azurite can be seen along cleavage surfaces within individual calcite grains.  This is not what most would regard as a fine specimen of azurite from the area, but it effectively illustrates the process of its formation because the replacement process did not proceed very far.  Sterling Hill Mining Museum specimen SHMM-1254.
