Schallerite

A thin vein of fine-grained brown schallerite in granular franklinite-calcite ore. This specimen was once part of the reference collection in the laboratory of the New Jersey Zinc Company in Franklin. The label is that of Lawson Bauer, who from 1913 to 1954 served as a chemist, and later Chief Chemist, of that company. Note the calcite-rich matrix, which, like that of SCH5, SCH7, and SCH8, differs markedly from that of the original specimens described by Gage et al. (1925) and probably represents a different and later find. Now part of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum collection (catalog no. SHMM-1194), this specimen is on public view in Zobel Hall of that museum.
