Schallerite

As in specimen SCH4, this specimen clearly shows that the type II schallerite veins are products of faulting. Careful inspection of photo SCH2, when viewed under magnification, reveals franklinite grains “decapitated” along minor shear surfaces that cut the altered ore below the schallerite-rhodonite vein. Similarly, the vein itself contains a large, broken clast of sheared ore in contact with massive brown schallerite, the two fragments of the clast now separated and the intervening space filled with fine-grained pink rhodonite containing small schallerite augen.  Many of the augen, again when viewed under magnification, consist of broken bits of franklinite (or of franklinite-willemite ore) rimmed with schallerite. The base of the large, broken clast is similarly rimmed. This specimen, a trim piece from a larger mass, was given by Pete J. Dunn to his colleague and friend Herb Yeates during the 1990s.
