Spherules 2-8 mm in diameter of brown schallerite in fine-grained rhodonite matrix, with coarse-grained white barite, small grains of white calcite, and tiny grains (not visible in daylight) of willemite, all part of a vein assemblage in contact with altered, sheared, franklinite-willemite-calcite ore. At one time part of the famed Ewald Gerstmann collection, this example of type II schallerite was later purchased by Art and Harriet Mitteldorf (SPEX Industries) and donated to the Franklin Mineral Museum in 1996. It now bears catalog no. FMM-1017. A chemical analysis of the schallerite in this specimen appears in Table 1 of Dunn et al. (1981).
